Connecting your calendars

This guide explains how to connect your calendars to AppointmentThing. AppointmentThing can easily connect with your Apple, Google, Outlook.com and Office 365 calendars to automatically check when you are available and help you connect with your contacts, clients and customers. You're able to connect up to two calendars with a Premium plan, and up to 6 calendars with a Pro plan.

Connecting your calendars will also allow AppointmentThing to add your appointments to your calendars and make sure you're never double-booked.  To begin, follow the steps below.

If you're already on the Connected Calendars Page, ignore steps 1 through 3 and start at step 4 below

face
  • To connect a calendar
  1. Log in to your account on AppointmentThing.com
  2. Click 'My appointments' at the top of the home page
  3. Click the 'Connected Calendars' link in the menu on the left side of the page to navigate to the Connected Calendars Page (see image below). From this page you can connect to your calendars and manage your existing connections

  4. To connect your calendar, click the blue 'Continue' button to the right of the type of calendar you wish to connect, as shown in the image above
  5. Depending on the type of calendar you chose to connect, you'll either be taken to a "Google Connect", "Microsoft Connect" or "Apple (iCloud) Connect" page. Follow the guides provided on these pages to finish connecting your calendar.

When your calendar has been successfully connected to AppointmentThing, a box will appear on the Connected Calendars Page containing the details of your calendar connection. The image below shows an example of what a connected Google Calendar will look like on this page.

  • To connect additional calendars
To connect additional calendars after you have connected your first calendar, click on the white '+ Add calendar' button on your Connected Calendars Page as shown in the image above, then follow the same steps as before.

  • To disconnect a calendar
To disconnect a calendar you've connected to your AppointmentThing account, follow these steps:
  1. Click the blue 'Settings' link contained in the box of the calendar you wish to disconnect (see image above)
  2. You'll be taken to a page like the one in the image below. Click the red 'Disconnect' link

  3. Click the blue 'OK' button on the white pop-up that appears to disconnect the calendar from your AppointmentThing account

  • Syncing with a specific calendar within a connected calendar account
Within a calendar platform, you can often have multiple different calendars connected to a single account. For instance in Google Calendar, the various calendars connected with your Google account are listed on the left side of the calendar, as shown in the image below.

When you connect a calendar account with AppointmentThing, it will currently sync with only one of the calendars contained within that account. By default, it will sync with the primary calendar for the account, though you can select a different calendar if you wish (instructions for this are below).

To use the example above, AppointmentThing will only sync with either "AddEvent - Nic" or "Example calendar". (It can't sync with "Reminders", "Tasks" or "Holidays in the United States" since these calendars were not created by the account owner.) By default it will sync with "AddEvent - Nic" since that is the primary calendar for this Google account.

AppointmentThing will use the selected calendar it is synced with for two things:
  1. It will automatically check that calendar to determine your availability
  2. When your contacts schedule appointments with you, AppointmentThing will automatically add your appointments to that calendar

  • To select a calendar to sync with
  1. From the Connected Calendars Page, click the blue 'Settings' link contained in the box of the calendar for which you want to select a specific calendar for AppointmentThing to sync with
  2. You'll be taken to a page like the one in the image below. Click the down arrow to reveal a drop-down menu of available calendars that you can choose to have AppointmentThing sync with. Select the specific calendar contained within this connected calendar account that you want AppointmentThing to sync with

(Still using the example from earlier in this article, this drop-down menu would only list the calendars "AddEvent - Nic" and "Example calendar" as options to select)
  3. Click 'Save' when you are finished to save your changes

As stated above, AppointmentThing will automatically check the calendar you selected to determine your availability (for this calendar account), and when your contacts schedule appointments with you, AppointmentThing will automatically add your appointments to this selected calendar.

Hi there 👋

We made AppointmentThing available to everyone on June 1st. Thanks so much for trying it out!

Prior to the launch, we were busy testing.. testing.. testing, correcting, then more testing.. testing.. testing and correcting.

Upcoming changes
Over the next couple of months, we’ll be gathering user feedback and (of course) be using the tools ourselves. Our testing and correcting will continue, and during this time we hope to learn a lot about the following:

  • What would be nice to have
  • What we need to improve right away
  • What needs a bit more explanation
  • Any issues or anything not working correctly

As a result, you’ll probably see us moving things around a bit: changing labels here and there, adding new functionality and options, updating tutorials, etc. It’s all part of the process.

How you can help
If you experience any issues or bugs, please let us know about them by sending an email to todos@appointmentthing.com. Also, please share anything you think we could improve upon or new functionality you wish we had.

Thanks :)
